Stella Artois was giving away free engraved Chalices as a promotion, so mine finally arrived and I decided to take some photos. It took a few setups and trials to get what I wanted. The final setup was the glass sitting on a piece of white foamcore with a black cloth background behind it. I used two Elinchrom lights with softboxes on each side to light the glass.
My goal was to get the etched engraving to show up as well as the Stella logo and "Belgium" from the front side of the glass - and to have the beer with some head and bubbles. After a few test shots to get the lighting the way I wanted it, I emptied and cleaned the glass and re-poured the beer for the final shot. Managing the reflections from the softboxes and getting all the writing on the glass lit was tricky - but I was satisfied with the final results.
2nd go with a little more beer to bring the head and bubbles back up...
And one of the earlier "no beer" test shots in B&W.
